Steps taken up to tackle racial discrimination

To tackle the racial discrimination faced by the people from the North East in the metropolitan cities, the Government of India has taken up a slew of measures.
As reported earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs on February 5 this year constituted a committee with MP Bezbaruah IAS (Retd) and member of NEC as the chairman with four Retd IAS officers as members.
S Saha, Deputy Secretary MHA as member secretary and Robin Hibu, Joint Commissioner of Delhi police will assist the committee.
Apart from examining various kinds of concerns regarding security and discrimination against the people from the North East, the committee shall suggest measures to be taken up by the Government and legal remedies to address the concerns.
On February 14, Delhi police set up a special cell to address policing issues pertaining to people from the North East States and to be supervised by Kime Kaming, DCP/4th Bn.
A special Help Line (1093) for attending/accepting distress calls from the people of North East has also become functional.
So far the Delhi police has filed charge sheets in four cases where the victims were from the North East States.
The charge sheets were filed in connection with the case of an altercation with girls and boys from Manipur with local residents in the area of PS Kotla Mubarakpur, South District.
The charge sheet has been submitted to the Court of Ld MM, Saket Court, New Delhi on March 21, 2014. In connection with the rape of a minor girl from Manipur, PS Vasant Vihar.
The charge sheet has been sent to Court of ASJ, Patiala Court, New Delhi on February 27. In connection with the assault of two Manipuri youths by locals under PS Ambedkar Nagar.

MM.
Saket Court on March 23. In connection with the stabbing of one Khusiangen alias Gen (22) at Paryavaran Complex, Saidullajab, New Delhi.
The charge sheet has been sent to the Court of ASJ Saket Court on March 21 .
