No to KV 33 power line

The Government's plan to construct a power sub-station and its accompanying power line of 33 KV, to run from Gangapat to Sangaipat is set to face strong opposition from the local people, according to four resolutions adopted during a public meeting held yesterday at the ground of Kongba Laishram Leikai Youth Club.
Kshetrigaon Assembly Constituency MLA Thangjam Nandakishore (Tayai) presided over the meeting while a number of social workers from Yaiskul AC, including Hareshwar Goswami attended the meeting, said a statement issued by the Club today.
After minutely discussing the likely consequences to be faced at Kongba, Heinoubok, Ayangpalli, Wangkhei Thangjam Leikai, Laishram Leikai, Koijam Leikai, as a result of the 33 KV line running through these places, those present at the meeting unanimously adopted four resolutions.
Taking serious note of the ham handed manner in which the Government had decided to put up the 33 KV line, the first resolution stated that the setting up the power line would be opposed until and unless a thorough discussion is held on the adverse impact it may have on the people, the environment their assets as well as the long term effect.
Stating that due care is taken up even in the case of an 11 KV line passing through human habitations, the meeting resolved that first a thorough study needs to be conducted on the impact it may have on the health of the people as well as their assets.
It was also decided to disseminate all the information to the people.
To oppose the coming of the 33 KV line on the inter-village road as well as to oppose any move to take the power line across areas inhabited by people.
MLA Nandakishore to submit a signed memorandum on behalf of the people to the Government, opposing the plan to put up the power line.
