Normal life disturbed

Imphal, November 05 2017:
Normal life in the State was affected today owing to the general strike called by proscribed outfit Maoist Communist Party, Manipur against the alleged failure to distribute PDS items to the beneficiaries in the State .
Commercial activities in the State almost came to a grinding halt during the general strike as most shops and other business establishments in Imphal city and its adjoining areas remained shut in view of the general strike.
Khwairamband Keithel and markets in places like Lamlong, Keishampat, Khoyathong, Konung Mamang, Singjamei and Kongba were closed .
Transportations, including inter-State and inter-district services were halted.
However, movements of few private vehicles were seen on the streets of Imphal city.
Some oil pumps which generally remain open on Sunday were closed today .
However, flight service remained unaffected .
It is also reported that other districts in the valley area bore similar picture with Imphal city.
Nonetheless, there was no report of any unwanted incident in connection with the general strike in all the districts.
Maoist Communist Party, Manipur called the general strike from 5 am till 5 pm today against the non-distribution of PDS items in the State.
The outfit has charged the elected representatives, bureaucrats and others concerned for misusing the PDS items in the State.
