Imphal, October 05 2020:
Stating that the 'bandh' called by the civil organisations in Kangpokpi district is not reasonable, National Sports University Protection Committee (NSUPC) has announced a 'counter-bandh' against
the 'bandh' .
Striking the same tone the Senjam Khunou and Senjam Chirang Joint Development Organisation (SKSCJDO) said that the site of construction is clearly in Imphal West and is published in the Gazette.
The site belongs to the people of Senjam Khunou, Senjam Chirang and Koutruk.
The forefathers of these villages had brought the land by paying Rs 13 to the State Darbar, it continued.
NSUPC secretary Kh Alexander speaking to the media said that the land comes under the jurisdiction of Imphal West district according to the Gazette published on December 20, 2016.He said during a meeting of the villagers in 2018 and attended by Sports Minister Letpao Haokip, Sekmai MLA H Dingo and Kuki Students Organisation representatives it was agreed not to create obstacles during land survey for the NSU as well as to name the land as Haraothel.
According to Manipur State Darbar in 1827, Haraothel is the grazing ground for Senjam Chirang and Senjam Khunou, he said.
Without providing proper documents or proof that the land belongs to Kangpokpi district, violating the agreement is very unfortunate, he said.
"Let us work out a way to deal with the issue in a proper way to avoid creating a tense atmosphere in the area resided by various communities," he added.
Senjam Khunou and Senjam Chirang Joint Development Organisation (SKSCJDO) has also demanded immediate withdrawal of the proposed bandh along National Highway-2 called by KSO Sadar Hills.
SKSCJDO warned that KSO and L Tangnuam village should be held responsible for any ill consequences if the bandh is not called off.
In a statement, SKSCJDO said that the bandh called by the KSO and endorsed by other CSOs is a clear violation of the agreement reached in the presence of Sports Minister, Letpao Haokip and Sekmai AC MLA, H Dingo on February 2, 2018 where it was agreed to call the site of the NSU as Haraothel.
It was agreed that no one will interfere while taking up any activities related to the construction of the NSU, it said.
The site of construction is clearly in Imphal West and is published in the Gazette, it said.
The site belongs to the people of Senjam Khunou, Senjam Chirang and Koutruk.
The forefathers of these villages had brought the land by paying Rs 13 to the State Darbar, it continued.
As per the agreement, KSO should produce genuine documents relating to L Tangnuam's possession of the site and approach higher authority rather than opting for blockades and arm twisting methods, it continued.
Saying that such an approach will not be good for anyone, SKSCJDO asserted that bandh or blockade is illegal as per Supreme Court's verdict and as such Government should take strong action against the bodies violating Supreme Court's verdict.
SKSCJDO, during an emergency meeting which was participated by around 500 people, resolved to initiate counter blockade if the State Government fails to take up appropriate action against KSO and other bodies, it continued.
