AR distributes Solar Lamps as part of Assistance Programme

Under the theme of 'Lending a Helping Hand', Thoubal Battalion of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR(South) organised an Assistance Programme at Blessings Academy Orphanage and Day School, Yeasom Village of Kamjong District on 04 March 2019.As part of the programme, the Battalion distributed 60 Solar Lamps to the students of the Orphanage as well as conducted medical camp and lectures on health awareness for the students.
The programme commenced with an informal interaction with the children and school teachers, wherein they exchanged their ideas with the Assam Rifles personnel.
It was a joy to behold, for many of them had a firsthand opportunity of meeting the uniformed soldiers.
The interaction was then followed by a lecture on 'Health Awareness' in which the children alongwith the Orphanage Staff were educated upon the ongoing climatic changes and necessary precautions to be taken to guard against the related diseases.
Post the lecture a health check camp was organised for the children by the Unit Medical Team in which necessary medical checkup was carried out and free medicines were distributed to the needy.
The medical team also visited sick ward of the orphanage and administered necessary treatment to the children.
A first aid satchel, containing primary first aid medicines was also gifted to the school.
As part of the programme, 60 portable solar lamps were distributed to the students and auth of the Orphanage to alleviate the problem of frequent power cuts in the area and further assist aiding the children in their academics in true meaning.
The programme concluded with mid day meals for the children of the Orphanage during which hot food was served to them.
The villagers of the area and the school authorities expressed their heartfelt gratitude and appreciated the kind gesture of the Assam Rifles in reaching out to them and hoped that this effort would go a long was in further cementing the bond between Assam Rifles and the people of Manipur.
