Talking to media after meeting the Myanmarese delegation, Gaikhangam expressed hope that the goodwill visit of the Myanmarese delegation would definitely help in building a good relation between Myanmar and Manipur.

Since their visit would benefit both Manipur and Myanmar, there will definitely be a change for the better in Manipur very soon.
He further said that apart from the Myanmarese delegation pressing the Indian Government to open an office of Consulate General in Manipur, the Government of Manipur should also urge for the same.
If at all an office of Consulate General is to be opened in Manipur, it would be set up in Imphal only.
Gaikhangam also assured that he would look into the case of firing incident along the border in which a Myanmarese national was hurt.
Minister for Commerce and Industries Govindas Konthoujam, who was also present during the press conference, stated that although there are no major industrial units in the State, the number of trade items between Manipur and Myanmar has been increased from 22 to 64 this year and efforts are being made to increase the trade items further.
He also stressed on the need to establish industrial units in the State by assisting judicious use of mineral resources available in Myanmar.
