Imphal, January 04 2025:
Lamlai Assembly Constituency MLA Khongbantabam Ibomcha has questioned the Congress party's anger over the Government's statement of relative peace prevailing in Manipur.
The MLA was speaking at his residence in Nongada during the distribution of winter crop seeds to farmers today.
On the occasion, he said that the Government never claimed to have resolved the conflict or to have brought peace in the State, but only said that the situation has improved relative to when violence first erupted in Manipur.
He claimed that violence has reduced by 60-70% .
Questioning the Congress party's indignation over the statement, he asked what benefits the party gains from the unrest and if they are apprehensive of losing any advantage if the conflict comes to an end.
He accused the party of trying to mislead the public by exploiting the conflict.
Pointing out initiatives such as fencing the border and identifying outsiders, he said that a certain group of people consistently attempt to paint the Government's efforts in a poor light.
Even during the ongoing conflict which erupted on May 3, 2023, the War on Drugs campaign has continued with destruction of illegal poppy plantations and seizure of drugs with the support of the Central Government, said the Lamlai AC MLA.
He urged people to be wary of individuals who spread fake news and create confusion in the minds of the public.
Kh Ibomcha also advocated against the circulation of unverified information that can cause apprehension or anger among the residents in vulnerable red zone areas.
The frequency of attacks by armed Kuki militants on red zone areas in Imphal East district such as Yaingangpokpi, Sanasabi, Thamnapokpi, Shantikhongbal and Sabungkhok Khunou have reduced significantly, he maintained.
Under such circumstances, he said that the Congress party is aware of what the Government can and cannot do as they have held power in the State for 15 years.
Instead of instigating the public and adding fuel to the fire, he urged the Opposition party to support the State Government's endeavours.
Calling for an end to the political back and forth, he said that the Government welcomes constructive suggestions and appealed for joint effort to bring an end to the protracted conflict.
On another note, the MLA distributed barley seeds (one tonne) and pea seeds to be cultivated over 72 sangams (18.21 hectare) of cropland.
