Imphal, September 03 2016: Public Health Engineering Minister T Manga Vaiphei today inaugurated a water supply scheme constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 285.09 lakh under NLCPR at Leimaram Irengbam today.

Forest and Environment and Law and Legislative Affairs Minister I Hemochandra and MLA I Ibohalbi also attended the inauguration function.

Manga Vaiphei while speaking at the function said that areas like Leimaram where running water is available throughout the year is rare in Manipur.

The Minister said that the newly inaugurated water supply scheme would be handed over to Village Water Supply and Sanitation Committee soon.

He said that PHED would consider construction of retaining wall and another water reservoir with the funds from the Centre at Leimaram.

The Minister sought co-operation from the villagers on the proper maintenance of the newly inaugurated water supply scheme.

In his speech, I Hemochandra expressed hope that villagers of Namoikhul, Irengbam and Leimaram would no longer face the problem of scarcity of drinking water.

I Ibohalbi while speaking at the function said that the old water supply scheme could not cover all the localities of his Oinam AC.

However, with the inauguration of this new scheme, the problem of water scarcity would be solved in the AC, he said.

The MLA said that the scheme would be able to function with an ease if it has an extra water reservoir.

He said that the water supply scheme does not require diesel pump as it is located up at an elevated area.
