Integrity stressed on UCM's foundation day

United Committee Manipur president Joychandra Konthoujam has reiterated that the territory of Manipur should not be compromised under any circumstances and all boundary related issues must be resolved amicably.
Addressing the 22nd foundation of UCM held at Palace Compound today, Joychandra continued that the stand of committee on the unity of Manipur is still intact and will face all challenges which aim to disintegrate Manipur.
He further stated that the Government must resume the border or security fencing works along the Indo-Myanmar border only after the boundary issue is resolved.
Expressing belief that the BJP led Government at both the State and the Centre will take the matter seriously and resolve the boundary issue, the UCM president said that there is no restriction on erecting fences at non disputed areas but it requires proper identification first.

He also said that the UCM will resume its agitation if the Government sidelines the interest of the people.
Saying that the people of Manipur have the very right to protect its land passed down by 'our ancestors,' Joychandra maintained that the rights of the indigenous people mustn't be violated while resolving the issue.
UCM has also been engaging in different welfare services by reaching out to the people of remote areas and Manipuris residing in other States, he said and added that they will go to Andaman and Nicobar Islands on July 6 .
Extending support to the War on Drugs campaign of the State Government, Joychyandra said that the kingpins active in Manipur must be traced and brought to book to solve the problems of drug misuse in the State.
He maintained that deforestation in hill areas is a serious issue which greatly affects ecological balance.
Joychandra then said that there must be mutual respect among the indigenous community of Manipur to take the State forward.
ACOAM-Lup president Sanjit Soraisam, UPF president N Rupachandra, IPSA president Tourangbam Birjit, AMKIL president Lourembam (ongbi) Nganbi, Kanglamei president Y Leirik Leima and several office bearers of UCM also attended the programme.
