NE DU students against compulsory Hindi

Various student bodies from the North Eastern States have raised objection to the proposed plan of Delhi University to introduce Hindi as a compulsory subject in the first year of the threeyear undergraduate courses in the University from the coming semester of the academic session 2013-14 .
The policy of introducing Hindi as compulsory subject in the university would incite feeling of alienation and discrimination, said a joint memorandum submitted to the VC of Delhi University by various NE student bodies while urging the authority concerned to re-look at the proposed structure and work out a suitable option for those students whose first language is not Hindi or any of the MIL in the light of various foreseeable implications.
The memorandum was jointly signed by representatives of NE Students Committee Against Imposition of Compulsory Hindi/MILs, Arunachal Students' Union, Delhi; Manipur Students' Association, Delhi; Delhi Mizo Zirlai Pawl; Sikkim Students' Union, Delhi; All Assam Students' Union, Delhi; Meghalaya Students' Union, Delhi; Naga Students' Union, Delhi and Tripura Students' Union, Delhi.
