Cop surrenders before Court

Imphal, February 03 2020: One more police personnel surrendered before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West today, in connection with the alleged fake encounter/extrajudicial killing of Irengbam Ratankumar on September 1, 2010 at Ningombam to Mongsangei road, near Vale Academy (under Singjamei PS).

It may be recalled that CJM Imphal West, on January 21, had issued summons to five accused police personnel to appear before the Court on February 11 for necessary Court proceedings.

Out of the five personnel, Inspector Imphal West commando Nandeibam Jatishwar s/o (L) Birahari of Heirangoithong Chingtham Leikai, Head Constable James Panmei s/o Meithaingam Panmei of Longmai-part III Noney, Rifleman Thounaojam Sanatomba s/o Amumacha of Haoreibi Mayai Leikai and Rifleman Okram Hemchandra s/o Biren of Thoubal Athokpam Leikai surrendered before the Court on February 1.They were later released on bail.

Today, Thokcom Ibomcha s/o Ibotombi of Heirok Part II Bamon Leikai surrendered before the Court and filed an application for leave to surrender and to ensure his release on bail, which the Court granted.

As such, Thokcom Ibomcha was let off on bail after furnishing a PR bond of Rs 50,000 and a surety of the same amount.

It may be mentioned that recently, the State Home Department had granted prosecution sanction against the accused personnel and accordingly, the Court took up cognizance against them on January 21.The prosecution sanction was granted 8 months after the CBI/SIT submitted charge sheet against the accused police personnel.
