Remand for bridge blast accused

LS Yosef Chongloi (35), the main accused of the powerful bomb blast that destroyed Saparmeina bridge located in between Koubru Leikha ad Saparmeina along Imphal-Dimapur highway on March 24, 2024 has been remanded injudicial custody.
LS Yosef Chongloi (35) s/o (late) Letkholal Chongloi of Boljang village, Churachandpur was produced before the Special Court NIA Manipur by a team of NIA, Imphal Branch after completion of police (NIA) custody period along with a prayer for judicial custody remand through video conferencing from Central Jail, Guwahati.
Special PP NIA submitted that Gamnom Saparmeina police station registered an FIR case in connection with the explosion under a bridge along National Highway-2 between Koubru Leikha and Saparmeina.
In compliance with an order of the Ministry of Home Affairs, NIA re-registered the case under different sections of IPC, Section 3 of Explosives Substance Act 1908, Section 4 of Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984 and sections 13 and 16 UA(P) Act, 1967.Special Court NIA Manipur today remanded 35 years old LS Yosef Chongloi alleged accused in powerful blast at Saparmeina Bridge located along the National Highway 2 in between Koubru Leikha and Saparmeina on March 2024 has been remanded into judicial custody.
The Special PP NIA stated that during the police custody the accused voluntarily confessed to his involvement in the present case.
As the investigation is at early stage, examination of more witnesses is necessary and investigation is in full swing, release of the accused on bail will risk his absconding and there is prima facie case of his involvement in the case and prayed for remanding the alleged accused in judicial custody.
The Court on perusal of the case record and after hearing the submission of Special PP and the alleged accused and considering the nature of the offence, remanded LS Yosef Chongloi in judicial custody and directed the NIA to produce him before the same Court on December 16 .
