Imphal, April 02 2013:
Drawing the attention of the state government over deletion of the subject of Additional English from the list of first language vide notification No.A/SC/6/V/76/Pt-II dated 23-03-2013 by Board of Secondary Education Manipur, Poumai Naga Union (PNU), Senepati district has contended that such unilateral decision which could not be applicable to all is discriminatory in nature.
In a statement, President of PNU Ng Lorho pointed out that removal of Additional English would compel the students of other communities, whose dialects have not yet been introduced in the school syllabus, to take up another language which they have never learn at any stage.
He further pointed out that there are 119 schools in Poumai inhabited areas where Poula dialect of the community is taught on voluntary basis for the last 10 years.
In spite of fulfillment of all the conditions and criteria for recognition of tribal dialects particularly Poumai, Gangte and Liangmei in Schools upto class VIII, the demand of the people belonging to these communities have kept at abeyance since 2011 .
