7 injured in IED blast at NPF candidate's residence

Imphal, March 02 2017: At least seven people were wounded in a powerful IED blast triggered by unknown persons at the residence of K Leishiyo (43) who will be contesting in the ensuing Assembly election from Phungyar Assembly Constituency on Naga People's Front (NPF) ticket.

The incident took place at the candidate's Imphal residence at Langol Laimanai Lanthungching today at around 5 pm.

According to sources, the IED believed to have been planted by two persons went off in front of the toilet built at the premises of the residence, injuring seven people.

They are identified as Mark Keishing (37) (Leishiyo's younger brother), Gideon Keishing (50) s/o (L) Thamba of Nambashi Khullen, Zeneatte Ningshen (30) s/o James of Mawai village, Samson Maku (55) s/o (L) Tangson of Langol Housing Complex, Fanny Grace (40) w/o Luckson Keishing of Lanthungching, Reishang Ningshen (35) s/o Mayarchung and Star Shinglai (30) s/o Ashung of the same village.

Samphang Keishing, father of the candidate fainted in the bomb blast.

All of them were rushed to Shija Hospital for treatment.

Condition of Zeneatte is said to be critical.

The sources said some portions of the toilet, windows, doors and walls of neighbouring houses were shattered in the blast.

The IED exploded when the injured persons, many of whom are supporters of Leishiyo Keishing, were playing chess and preparing food, it added.
