CJM summons rape accused

The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West taking cognizance of the sensational case of rape and murder of RK Ratanmala Devi in 2010 has ordered that the rape accused namely Soibam Dhanabir Singh of Ningombam Mayai Leikai appear before the Court on January 22, informed a Human Rights Law Network statement issued today.
Dhanabir is accused of outraging the modesty of Ratanmala before killing her at a cultivation site in the intervening night of January 29-30, 2010 .
Reminding that the victim's mother had filed a writ petition in the High Court of Manipur seeking speedy trial of the case so as to punish the culprit, HRLN also pointed out that accused Dhanabir had already given his confessional statement to murdering the woman before the Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Imphal.
As an impact of filing the writ petition before the High Court, charge-sheet has been submitted and consequently the CJM took cognizance of the offence committed by Dhanabir, maintained the statement adding that the legal procedure is an outcome of the initiation by the HRLN.
