Imphal, March 31 2020:
As many as seven local clubs of Langthabal Kunja, Langthabal Chingthak, Langthabal Chingkha and Langthabal Khoupum have laid down certain conditions if the State Government is determined to set up a quarantine centre at Langthabal Phumlou Loukon or Phumlou Konjil in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic.
A joint meeting of Divine Light Club, Langthabal Kunja Welfare Club, Langthabal Chingkha Youth Club, United People Welfare Association, Langthabal Chingthak Rongmei Club, Universal Youth Club and Langthabal Khoupum Cultural Club was held today at the premises of Divine Light Club.
The meeting deliberated on the demarcation done at Langthabal Phumlou Loukon for setting up a quarantine centre following a spot assessment done by none other than Chief Minister N Biren yesterday.
The local club representatives pointed out that Phumlou Loukon which is just 2 to 3 square Kms in area is the only place available to the surrounding villages for agricultural purposes.
There is a strong chance of creating a panicky situation among the local populace in case a quarantine centre is set up at the agricultural land.
Further, if the quarantine centre is converted into a hospital for treating infectious diseases, there are chances of spreading airborne diseases in the area, opined the local club leaders.
They also opined that it would be much better if the quarantine centre is set up at an isolated place which is 15 to 20 Kms away from human settlement areas.
Nonetheless, the meeting resolved that if a quarantine centre must be set up at Langthabal Phumlou Loukon, its purpose should be restricted to COVID-19 only and it should be demolished once COVID-19 is effectively contained.
The meeting further urged the Government to consult local people and clubs before it embarks on constructing the quarantine centre.
