Protest staged against expansion of KLNP

Bishnupur, August 27 2022:
JAC of The People of Areas Affected by the Extension of Keibul Lamjao National Park (KLNP) on Saturday staged a protest denouncing expansion of the national park.
A public meeting in this regard was held at Kumbi Leibung Makhong community hall after which a mass rally was taken out till Kumbi Awang Pat.
At the water body, the protestors shouted slogans against expansion of KLNP and called for protecting the water bodies preserved by their forefathers for the coming generation.
Speaking at the protest, JAC assistant secretary O Jiban stressed the need for protecting the areas enclosed by Kumbi pat along with other water bodies at Ungamen, Khordak.
Otherwise, the people of these areas will have no place to live, with their children having no land of their own in future.
On the other hand, one of the protestors, Nongmaithem Yaidha questioned the rea son of carrying out survey for eviction in hush-hush manner by the authorities citing that notification has been issued in 2016 .
Do they want to usurp the lands of the people, the protestor asked.
The protest was also participated by social workers Wahengbam Chaoba, Takhellambam Samarendra, Takhellamnam Samungou and Ningthoujam Iboyaima.
