Arms, ammunition recovered; KCP trio netted

Imphal, May 21 2024: Acting on specific information about presence of arms and ammunition in Mongjang village area under Churachandpur district, a joint team of Indian Army and Churachandpur district police carried out operation on Tuesday leading to recovery of a 12.5 Assault Rifle, a single shot Bolt action Rifle, two 9mm pistols, mortar, ammunition, and other war-like stores.

The recoveries have been handed over to the Churachandpur police station for further investigation and disposal, informed PRO Defence.

Meanwhile, a combined team of Thoubal district commando, 5/9 Gorkha Rifles and 37 AR apprehended three cadres of a KCP group along with arms from Khongjom Bazar near Tekcham Lamkhai on Tuesday.

The arrested persons have been identified as Konjengbam Akash alias Pari Meitei (33) son of K Jugindro Meitei of Moirang Tera Khongsangbi, Nongthombam Amujao Singh (25) son of late N Nejit Singh of Pukhao Naharup and Amom Somendro alias Kaleipung Meitei (28) son of A Pakchao Meitei of Wangoo Parking Makha.

Besides rounding up the three cadres around 6 pm, the joint team also recovered two 9mm pistols (country made) with magazine and 14 rounds, five rounds of .62 mm, four demand letters, three mobile handsets and an Alto car (MN05A 2200), said a police report.
