Imphal, November 18 2023:
Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee, Manipur (STDCM) has informed that it will hold a closed door consultative meeting on November 23 for discussing further course of action for saving the Meitei community and safeguarding the territorial integrity of Manipur.
In a release, STDCM publicity secretary N Debeshwor stated that the movement for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the ST list was suspended for some time as decided in the consultative meeting held on May 21 to aid in maintaining law-and-order and restoring normalcy.
Recalling that the STD-CM's movement for granting ST status to Meetei/ Meitei and ensuring constitutional safeguard began in 2012, he said that Meeteis from outside Manipur have extended support to the movement.
The secretary urged all those who want to launch protest regarding the demand for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the ST lists to give prior information to STDCM so that there is no confusion in the movement.
While paying respect to those who sacrificed their lives for the safeguard of Manipur since the conflict erupted, Debeshwor demanded the state and the central governments to end the conflict and restore normalcy at the earliest.
He further urged the state government to send requisite recommendations to the central government for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the ST list.
