Imphal, June 16 2021:
The Joint Non Government Voluntary Organisation, a collective body of registered clubs and organisations of Kakching, has said that government's effort to save agricultural land by enacting relevant laws has proved fruitless in Kakching revenue district.
According to a statement of the joint body, construction of buildings and other structures on the paddy fields on both sides (eastern and western) of Imphal-Moreh road particularly at 59-Kakching Khullen and 60-Laijing revenue villages are continuing since the recent past and government is remaining blind to these constructions despite enactment of laws to protect paddy fields.
Farmers too are selling their paddy fields just for getting some profit while wealthy people are acquiring them at exorbitant price as if there is a hidden agenda, the joint body said and expressed strong concern over possible complete disappearance of paddy fields in the two villages sooner than later.
The joint body appealed to farmers to think for future generation and save paddy fields from exploitation while maintaining that farmers have responsibility towards making the society self-reliant in agricultural products.
