Thoubal VDF personnel join arms down strike

Thoubal, May 15 2025: The VDF personnel of Thoubal district posted at various police stations and other vulnerable areas have joined the "Gun Down, Pen Down" protest launched by the All Manipur VDF Employees Welfare Association from today.

As part of the agitation, VDF personnel have laid down their arms and refrained from carrying out their designated duties in various aspects including traffic control, safeguarding vulnerable areas etc.

The VDF personnel have been urging the Government to address several of its grievances and extend the service period of the Village Defence Force.

Other key demands include service regularisation, implementation of Section 18 of the Police Act 1861 VDF recruitment rules and increased pay for VDF personnel.

Despite several memorandums being submitted to the PR Government, the failure to meet their demands led to the launch an "indefinite arms down" strike, said the VDF personnel.
