1st round of National Deworming Day launched at Chandel, Thoubal

Chandel/Thoubal, March 13 2025:
To deworm all preschool and school-age children between the ages of 1 -19 years through the platform of schools and Anganwadi Centers in order to improve their overall health, nutritional status, access to education and quality of life, the first round of "National Deworming Day" was launched today at Chandel and Thoubal.
Chandel launched the first round of district-level "National Deworming Day" today at Japhou Upper Primary School, Japhou Village, organised by the District Health Society, Chandel.
The launching programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner Chandel, N Nandakumar Singh, IAS as chief guest, CMO Chandel, Dr Joyson Matthew Monsang as functional president and Yumnam Hemchandra Singh, ZEO Chandel, Mina Nula, Inspector of Schools, ADC Chandel, and Martha Saka, Supervisor ICDS Cell, Chandel as guests of honour.
Giving the keynote address, Dr RD.Anna Niwarhring, DNO for Child Health Chandel, stated the effects of parasitic worms on health, the importance of hygiene, and available treatments.
She emphasized that the campaign aims to reduce worm infections in children and raise awareness about deworming.
Speaking at the event as guest of honour, ZEO Chandel Y Hemchandra Singh stated that the 1st Round of National Deworming Day 2025 will be observed from March 13 with a mop up round on March 20 for the missed out students, in collaboration with the Ministry of Women and child development and Ministry of School Education.
The campaign will be carried out across schools, Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) and health units throughout the district.
CMO Chandel while giving his speech stated that the deworming campaign of children is planned to reduce the harm caused by soil transmitted helminths (STH).
He delivered a health talk on the effects of worm infections and highlighted the importance of deworming, hygiene and sanitation.
Concluding the program, the presidium members along with the teachers and staff from ICDS and Health Department Chandel administered the required dose of Albendazole tablets to all the eligible students.
THOUBAL
The 1st round of "National Deworming Day" was also launched today at Kangasenbi Upper Primary School located at Thoubal Achouba Pakhangba Leirak organised by District Health Society, Thoubal.
The launching programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner Thoubal, A Subhash (IAS) who is also the chairman of District Health Society, as chief guest, CMO Thoubal, Dr Y Nokul as president, ZEO Zone-in Thoubal, Arambam Anilkumar MES, District Hospital Thoubal, Medical Superintendent Dr W Ruhinikumar, ICDS Cell Thoubal, District Programme Officer, N Parango and Thoubal Municipal Council ward no 9, councillor W Ibochouba as guests of honour.
The program aims to provide deworming tablets to 9,91,696 children of Manipur between the ages of 1-19 years, in which a total number of 84, 140 children are from Thoubal district.
The district aims to provide deworming tablets to 947 Anganwadi Centres, 219 Government schools and 102 private schools of Thoubal district A total number of 31,097 children aged between 1-5 years, and 132 school going children between the ages 6-19 years will be administered deworming tablets by Anganwadi Centre.
And a total number of 21,296 children of Government schools and 31,615 children of private schools will also be administered the deworming tablets.
