Yairipok stir over extortion suspended

The indefinite general strike called by Shop Owners' Welfare Association against the unbearable monetary demands levied on them by various organisations, which began from 5 am Sunday in and around Yairipok Bazar - has been suspended considering the hardships faced by the public.
The decision to keep the agitation in abeyance was arrived at during a meeting of the Association held at Yairipok bazar on Monday.
Addressing the media, Association secretary Kh Surat stated that shopkeepers in the area, who have been struggling with the heavy monetary demands imposed by various organisations, had been advocating for the cessation of such demands.

He said that in response to the evolving situation, the association launched an indefinitegeneral strike from January 12.He, however, informed that the strike has been suspended considering the hardships faced by local shopkeepers, vendors and passenger vehicle service operators.
Even then, the association's demand to halt the excessive financial impositions remains unchanged, Surat reiterated and warned that the strike would be re-launched if concerns of the public continue to be ignored.
