Peace call marks Hiroshima and Nagasaki Day

Manipur Tourism Forum organised Hiroshima and Nagasaki Day at Imphal Peace Museum located at Maibam Lotpa Ching, Nambol on Tuesday.
The observance was attended by education minister Th Basanta Singh, MU vice chancellor Prof N Lokendra Singh, Bishnupur DC Lourembam Bikram and Manipur Tourism Forum president Kh Krishnan Singh as presidium members.
A book titled 'The story of paper crane girl-Sada-ko Sasaki' penned by Dr Khangembam Samungou was also released as a part of event.
Education minister Th Basanta said that establishment of the Peace Museum is a pride not only for the state but also for the country.
Allied powers minutely discussed whether to drop the bomb or not at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, but finally decided to drop the bomb to end the long war.
The possession of nuclear weapon stopped from occurrence of the 3rd World War as countries fear it.
Big wars will not happen if countries having nuclear weapons used the carefully and wisely, he observed.
Stating that Japan redeveloped its economy even after the atomic bombing at Hiroshima and Nagasaki because of education, he stressed the need for the people, the youth in particular, to strive for excelling in education.
While maintaining that tourism occupies a big space in improving economy of the state, Basanta urged the people to extend all possible help in improving the economy through tourism and further assured of framing a policy by the education department for ensuring visit of students to the museum so as to spread knowledge among them.
In his address, L Bikram said that the observance has been held to commemorate the bombing at Hiroshima where many died so as to spread the message of peace to the world.
Any problem could be solved without war, he said, while stressing the need for knowing the history of the land.
On the other hand, Department of Science and Technology observed Hiroshima/Nagasaki Day at its science centre auditorium located at Takyelpat with NIELIT director N Debachandra as chief guest, Department of Science and Technology director Homila Hongrei as president and senior scientist officer M Ramo as guest of honour.
Sangai Higher Secondary School PGT Sh Khogendro Sharma spoke as resource person.
Manipur Science Centre curator TD Kom, in his speech, explained that the day is observed to make the people aware about the dangers of misusing powerful/destructive weapon.
Misusing nuclear weapon will not only cause destruction instantly but will also destroy the future,
he cautioned.
