IED found planted at Singjamei

Unknown miscreants on Thursday planted a powerful Digital Timer Remote control IED in front of the office of Ward Development Committee of Imphal Municipal Corporation Ward No 16 at Singjamei Chinga Makha Meisnam Leikai under Singjamei Police Station.
According to a police report, IMC Ward No.16 corporator Thokchom ongbi Eliza received a message on her mobile phone from an identified number that a bomb had been planted.
Eliza immediately informed the police, after which a team of Singjamei police station and Imphal West Commando rushed to the location and conducted search.
A team of Manipur Police Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) also joined in the search and later found the bomb in front of the Ward Development Committee office at Singjamei Chinga Makha Meisnam Leikai.
After the bomb was discovered, a security perimeter was set up and the road leading to Singjamei Chinga Makha and Heirangoithong was cordoned off.
The BDDS team inspected the bomb and identified as a Digital timer RC IED.
The team used a jammer and tried to remove the explosive but failed to do so.
As such, the team surrounded the IED weighing around 3kg with sand bags and safely exploded it at the spot at around 10.30 pm.
Vehicular traffic was allowed to resume along the route shortly after.
Singjamei AC MLA and MAHUD minister Y Khemchand and DGP P Doungel also visited the scene after hearing news of the incident.
According to IMC corporator Eliza, there have been demands for money from IMC councillors by an outlawed outfit.
On the other hand, Singjamei Chinga Makha Apunba Meira Paibi Lup and SANULAL jointly staged a sit-in protest against planting of the bomb on Thursday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, SANULAL advisor Thingnam Ibethoi condemned the planting of such a powerful bomb in a densely populated area.
She further demanded the people responsible to clarify the reason, while urging fc; resolving issues, if there is any, peacefully.
