Imphal, August 08 2024:
INDIA bloc, Manipur demanded that separate law be enacted by the state government in connection with relief, rehabilitation and compensation to the internally displaced persons (IDPs).
Addressing the media at Congress Bhawan on Thursday, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) working president Kh Devbrata Singh said that the 15-month long crisis has displaced thousands of people of both the communities, many have died and hundreds disabled due to injuries.
He emphasised that it will be better if these affected people are provided relief, rehabilitation and compensation under newly enacted suitable law.
The present conflict in the state is not similar to the Delhi riots of 1985 and the Gujarat riots of 2002 as they did not continued for long period of time as in the state.
For example, the Gujarat riots ended within a week, he recounted.
Devbrata continued that hence, any relief, rehabilitation and compensation based on laws and acts based on Delhi and Gujarat riots are not acceptable.
A new law should be passed by the government which will provide better welfare and support to the IDPs, he further asserted.
