Army observes World Athletics Day

Imphal, May 08 2024: Indian Army on Wednesday observed the World Athletics Day in the North-Eastern states including Manipur with sports and patriotic fervour showcasing commitment to promoting athleticism, camaraderie and a healthy lifestyle among the youth.

A release by PRO Defence informed that an Athletics Meet was hosted at Maa Foundation School in T Loklaphai of Churachandpur district with the participation of around 70 students in track and field events such as the 100m race, 400m race, 50m relay race and sack race, followed by a friendly volleyball match.

The youth's participation showcased the spirit of healthy competition and sportsmanship, it said, adding that prizes including school bags, stationery items and sports equipment for indoor games were distributed.

Indian Army also observed World Athletics Day with locals of Island village in Imphal East district.

The youth actively participated in track and field events as well as a friendly volleyball match.

These initiatives underscore the Indian Army's commitment to foster a culture of sportsmanship, physical fitness and camaraderie among youth across the region, it mentioned.
