AR seizes heroin worth Rs 2.24 cr, nabs two

Imphal, June 30 2021:
Maram Battalion of Jwalamukhi Sector/IGAR (E) seized heroin worth Rs 2.24 crore at Maram, Senapati on NH-2 on Wednesday and nabbed two smugglers.
According to a release, tipoff regarding the smuggling of contraband items on the national highway was received from a reliable source and a quick reaction team was despatched immediately on NH-2 to foil the smuggling attempt.
The troops established a check post on the outskirts of Maram town at a sharp turn and checked all suspected vehicles.
At about 4:30 am, a TATA dumper truck (NL-07 A-9299) was intercepted.
On searching the vehicle, 56 packets of heroin weighing approximately 560 grams were found hidden in soap cases and wrapped inside a plastic tarpaulin.
The driver and the co-driver identified as Latif Ali and Aaku were apprehended.
The duo, along with the heroin and the vehicle was handed over to Mao Police.
The accused persons along with the heroin and the confiscated vehicle will be produced to court by Mao Police, the release added.
