Traditional ornament outlet 'Tangkhul Beads' opened

A new commercial outlet named Tangkhul Beads', specialising in traditional Tangkhul ornaments, was inaugurated at Phungreitang in Ukhrul town on Tuesday by Ukhrul deputy commissioner (DC) Zuringla Kengoo, with the inaugural blessing invoked by UTBC pastor reverend Somi Kasomwoshi.
Speaking at the inauguration, DC Kengoo illuminated the significance of such outlets in celebrating the rich traditional heritage of the Tangkhul community.
She observed that the diverse range of jewellery items available at the store not only enhances aesthetic appeal but also fosters a sense of identity and connection to Tangkhul traditions.
"Each item carries its own history.
The piece that I wear has its own story, which adds intrinsic value to these ornaments," she remarked.
Kengoo further observed, "By embracing these items, we are revisiting our past while simultaneously rediscovering the values held by our forefathers when they adorned themselves with these beads" .
On the evolution of these items, she elaborated, "Now we see that these items embody not just traditional aesthetics but also modern flair" .
She continued that the ornaments extend beyond mere beads strung around the neck, but now adorn various parts of the body and enhance our overall attire.
"It's a refreshing innovation and I truly appreciate this development," Kengoo remarked.
The Tangkhul Beads' is owned by ornament designers Pamchuiwon Ka-sak, Mashunphi Kasak and Soreila Awungshi, who handcrafted the rich array of traditional ornaments including 'Kongsang' (necklaces, headgears), 'Kazao' (bangles), 'Zeithing', earrings, crowns, and other traditional accessories.
The inauguration function was also attended by promoters former Aja Daily editor Valleyrose Hungyo, Yaruihor Hungyo, Ngara-ipam, and Tangkhul Lei-sak Long (TLL-Commerce Council) president Ramyo Raingam, general secretary Ngathingpam Ronrei and Katho Katamnao Long (KKL) president Mashungmi Zingkhai among others.
