Imphal, September 26 2023:
Calling the cold blooded murder of the two students as inhumane and cowardice act, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has demanded the government for swift arrest of the perpetrators and justice for the two victims.
Addressing a press conference at its office here on Tuesday, COCOMI coordinator Jeetendra Ningomba said that viral photos that purportedly show the last moments of the two students and their lifeless bodies lying on the ground sparked an emotional uproar in the state.
It was an inhumane and cowardice act, and COCOMI condemns it in the strongest term not only the Kuki militants, who committed the cool blooded murder, but also the state government.
The CM himself participated in a sit-in protest and assured swift action against the persons involved when the video of naked parading of two Kuki women went viral.
However, in the present case, the government has not shown any measures taken up to the public, who are demanding to make public steps taken to trace the students, who went missing since July 6 .
The government only made public the transfer of the case to CBI but there is no update on the investigation so far, he noted.
Apart from the two students, video showing merciless execution of Sagolsem Ngalleiba and Irengbam Chingkheinganba of Sekmaijin also went viral few days ago.
However, the government did nothing to arrest the perpetrators, he said.
Jeetendra also asked if the government is able to function in Churachandpur and said that people are demanding the government to surrender if it cannot control the situation in Churachandpur and allow them to do the needful.
Allowing lawlessness in the hills and taking excessive measures in the valley in the name of maintaining law and order will only infuriate the public, he cautioned.
Despite knowing the identities of the armed militants and mob leaders of the May 3 Churachandpur incident, the government is remaining silent, he alleged while demanding an explanation of the lethargic reaction of the state and central governments in the hills.
He further charged the government of creating separate administrations in hill and valley, especially in Kuki majority districts, and demanded the government to be impartial in dealing with the crisis.
The public are ready to do the needful if the government sincerely accepts its inability to enforce rule of law in Churachandpur, Tengnoupal and Kangpokpi districts, the convenor declared.
