Imphal, August 26 2021:
In support of the nationwide strike called during the online meeting of the Joint Platform of Scheme of Workers on August 16 against the suppression of scheme workers in the country, a strike will be carried out in the state as well, AITUC Manipur general secretary L Sotinkumar has informed.
In a statement released to the press, Sotinkumar contended that Anganwadi and midday meal workers are provided benefits for namesake only.
They continued to be deprived of their rights, not to mention of the suppression of their various demands by the government through imposition of draconian laws.
On the other hand, health, education and nutrition-related activities are being continuously privatized.
At present, ASHA workers particularly in Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh are on an indefinite strike.
Thus, a joint meeting will be convened on August 29 and a strike notice will be forwarded on September 8 and 9 .
The central trade union has already extended its support to the strike and AITUC Manipur has begun mobilising for the same, he said and appealed to all concerned to extend their support to the strike.
Meanwhile, Union Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday announced the National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP) with the aim of reviving the economy of the country affected by the first and second wave of the pandemic, by identifying and developing potential infrastructure sectors.
Manipur State Council cannot help but consider this move as an attempt to sell off the wealth of the people to private corporate houses, Sotinkumar said.
Maintaining that the announcement is against the common people and meant to profit the private corporate houses, Sotinkumar further said that although the opposition political parties and different trade unions had opposed the move, the government responded negatively, indicating that the Modi government cares more about the corporate owners than the people.
Thus, the people need to work together to stand against such injustice, he said, while adding that the Communist party is working with likeminded political parties to stand against the Narendra Modi government for the good of the people.
