Kakching, January 25 2023:
Khoibu community organised the golden jubilee celebration of Khangshim village at the village ground in Kakching Lamkhai on Wednesday.
The event held with MP Leishemba Sanajaoba as chief guest and Tribal Affairs and Hills minister Letpao Haokip as guest of honour was marked by unveiling of the jubilee stone and releasing of souvenir by the chief guest.
Speaking at the occasion, MP Sanajaoba said that we human beings are one but depending on the places we live, our culture, religion and traditions differ.
Though Manipur is a small place, the state is home to various communities and is like a garden with different flowers blooming together.
Of the many communities settling in the state, Khoibu community is also one which has its own culture, tradition and language and the community is still preserving the age-old customs and traditions, he noted while adding that the community is hard working and brave and that was the reason why one of the then King of Manipur appointed a Khoibu man as his Senapati.
While mentioning that the Kings who ruled the kingdom of Manipur never differentiated and sided with any of the communities, .he stated that had the then Kings of Manipur favoured one particular community and prevented other small communities from protecting their customs and traditions, Manipur would be the domain of a particular community.
He further said that we need to participate in the race for development but in the process should never compromise our culture and traditions but keep them intact and make it a part of the development.
In his address, minister Letpao Haokip informed that Khoibu district council constituency will remain in the autonomous district council and that Khoibu community will be included among the recognised tribes by the Indian government very soon.
The function was also attended by Khangshim village authority chairman Angshem Tontang, secretary Milan Khaling, minister Letpao's wife Wuangneineng Haokip, Khoibu Tribe Union president Joseph Hong-sha, members of Sana Konung Uttra Shanglen, village chiefs, religious leaders and others.
Gifts were also presented to families of the first settlers in the village, former members of the village authority and women of the village who are married and settling in other villages.
