Poll preparedness in Bishnupur district reviewed

Bishnupur, December 22 2021:
District Election Officer of Bishnupur, Ranjan Yumnam on Wednesday called upon political parties and intending candidates in the district to ensure peaceful poll campaign in the run-up to the upcoming state assembly election.
Ranjan Yumnam made the appeal while chairing an election preparedness review meeting at the Conference Hall of Bishnupur DC Complex.
The meeting was attended by returning officers (ROs), Nodal Officers and representatives of political parties in the district.
The DEO further urged full cooperation of all for ensuring a free and fair conduct of election during the meeting.
Highlighting law and order situation and security arrangements, Bishnupur SP N Herojit Singh expressed confidence for a smooth conduct of election from security point of view.
Sufficient security personnel including CAPF will be deployed in tfie district for maintaining law and order in the upcoming election, he informed.
Stating that arms deposited in the district currently stands at 64 per cent, Herojit reminded licensed gun owners to deposit their fire arms to the nearest police station.
Discouraging applications for arms exemption, the SP maintained that life threat from someone is not suf ficient ground for arms exemption but a criterion for license application.
Responding to an apprehension expressed by one of the political party representatives on undue influence of Central Armed Police Forces deployed for election duty, Herojit assured that stringent mechanisms will be enforced to prevent CAPF from being influenced by locals through force or otherwise.
Replying to another query on deployment of adequate security arrangement for sensitive polling stations, SP Herojit said necessary measures will be adopted based on the vulnerability mapping by the District Election Office.
During the meeting, shifting of several polling stations from dilapidated conditions to better equipped locations, expenditure monitoring, media monitoring and Covid contingency plans among others were also discussed.
ACs to DC H Bobby Sharma and Ejaj Hassan also attended the review meeting.
