Imphal, January 17 2025:
Residents of Mekola and surrounding areas staged a sit-in protest on Friday in front of the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Mekola, opposing monetary demands made to the staff of the health facility.
The demonstration was jointly organised by Mekola Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, RKS Committee, and Mekola Youth Association.
A protestor speaking to the media highlighted that the PHC serves as the primary healthcare facility for several localities under its jurisdiction, covering eight sub-centres.
The closure of the health centre due to such monetary demands would cause immense hardships for the community, as it plays a vital role in providing round-the-clock medical services to the area.
The protestors strongly condemned the unaffordable monetary demands, and urged organisations involved in such activities to cease immediately.
They emphasised the importance of keeping the PHC operational to ensure uninterrupted access to essential healthcare services for the people in the area.
