Security beefed up; liquor peddler held

Imphal, February 12 2022: Ahead of the Assembly elections, Imphal West district commando beefed up security measures in several parts of the district on Saturday.

As per a report, a team of district commando led by OC inspector P Achouba carried out cordon and search operation in general areas of Majorkhul, MG Avenue and Jalan store between 3.20 and 4 pm.

Around 18 individuals were verified out of who 13 without identification documents were handed over to City Police station for further verification.

A similar operation was also conducted by the district commandos at Sangaiprou Maning Leikai between 3.15 and 4.30 pm during which nearly 140 residents were verified.

There is no report of any arrest made.

On the other hand, a team of Imphal West district commando arrested a woman along with 250 litres of DIC during frisking at checking at Sekmai Nongthonband.

The arrestee has been identified as Laimayum Naobi Devi (31) d/o (L) Ratan, of Sekmai Nongthonband.

According to a report, the seizure was made around 5 am when the team halted a Maruti Van (MN01X-1912) driven by Naobi for checking.

She along with the seized liquor has been handed over to Sekmai PS for further actions.
