Awareness on value chain processing held

A one-day awareness programme on value chain processing infrastructure development jointly organised by Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) and North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Limited (NEDFi) under the aegis of Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER) was held at Hotel Classic Grande, here on Monday.
Around 200 members of different Farmers Producers' Organisation (FPO) and entrepreneurs participated in the programme during which they interacted with MOMA project director K Debdutta as well as NEDFi experts.
MOVCDNER nodal officer Nengboi Haokip, NEDFi Guwahati general manager MN Das and other key officials of agriculture and horticulture departments also attended the programme.
MOVCDNER was first implemented in 2015-16 and it is in its third phase now.
In the initial stage, only about 5000 hectares of farmland were covered under the mission but presently it has been expanded to 37,500 hectares in both hills and valley.
In a major success of the mission, organic farmers are now getting good profit by exporting their products to other states and countries in bulk.
Earlier, the state was producing less than 100 MT of Chak-hao but today, the annual production has crossed 1500 MT.
Pineapple production has also Increased from 6000 MT to 24,000 MT per annum.
Besides, farmers are producing organic ginger, turmeric and other fruits.
Apart from raw export, farmers can increase their income through value addition and processing.
There are more than 60 FPOs in the state and the government is providing 75 per cent subsidy to the FPOs for setting up processing units.
