Agitating employees disrupt PWD office works

As part of their ongoing agitation demanding release of backlog salaries for 10 months, work charged and muster roll employees of Public Works Department (PWD) locked the room of chief engineer (PWD) on Wednesday.
During the agitation launched by Joint Coordinating Committee of PWD Manipur, all regular employees of the department were made to move out from their rooms and forced to cease work for the day.
Regarding the agitation, an employee of the department told media persons that chief engineer (PWD) should be held responsible for any untoward incident that occurs during the agitation and strongly condemned indifferent attitude of top officials of the department even though the agitation entered the second day on Wednesday.
Chief engineer has been remaining silent when work-charged, casual and muster roll employees do not get salaries for more than ten months, the employee said, adding that more intense forms of agitation might follow if the backlog salaries are not released soon.
The agitating employees raised slogans demanding immediate release of 10 months' backlog salaries and condemning silent attitude of chief engineer of the department.
