Shija observes World Breastfeeding Week

Shija Hospitals & Research Institute (SHRI), in collaboration with Breastfeeding Promotion Alliance of Manipur (BPAM), Indian Medical Association (IMA) - Manipur Branch, Imphal Obstetrics & Gynaecology Society (IOGS), Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP), Paediatrics Association of Manipur, Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI), World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA), and Breastfeeding Promotion Network of India (BPNI), observed World Breastfeeding Week on Friday at Shija auditorium.
Dr Jugindra Sorokhaibam, director Medical Services, Shija Hospitals; Dr Kh Pratima Devi, secretary IOGS; and Dr A Ibotombi Sharma, president BPAM', attended the event as chief guest, guest of honour and president, respectively.
Dr Meenakshi Moirangthem, consultant paediatrician Shija Hospitals, delivered the keynote address.
Dr James Elangbam, secretary BPAM, and Dr Longjam Basanta, secretary PAM, were present as special invitees.
Over 60 participants, including students, faculty members of Shija Academy, nurses, support staff at SHRI, volunteers, and BPAM members attended the event which was held under theme "Closing the Gap: Breastfeeding Support for All".
Speaking on behalf IOGS, Dr Pratima offered her unwavering support for efforts to increasing the breastfeeding rates as Dr Meenakshi shared valuable information about the health benefits of breastfeeding, the obstacles that mothers encounter, and strategics to address these challenges.
She also provided practical advice and resources for both mothers and healthcare professionals.
Dr Jugindra highlighted Shija's strong commitment to promoting breastfeeding, noting that the hospital provides a creche for mothers to facilitate breastfeeding but does not supply cradles for newborns while Dr Ibotombi Sharma called for collaborative efforts to improve breastfeeding support, adding that every mother and child can thrive.
