UKAL lifts restrictions on Lai Haraoba, issues guidelines

Umanglai Kanba Lup (UKAL) has lifted the restrictions on Lai Haraoba in safer locations of the state while at the same time issued guidelines mandatory for celebrating the annual ritual festival.
Addressing the media at Utra Shanglen, Sana Konung here on Friday, UKAL president Mutum Maniton said that the decision was taken after a joint deliberation on the matter by Sana Konung and UKAL.
He observed how Lai Haraoba festival has been facing hurdles since the Covid-19 pandemic followed by the current crisis since May 3 last year.
Since it is an annual ritual, the joint deliberation of Sana Konung and Utra Shanglen has decided to lift the restrictions with exception to red zone areas, he said, adding that all rituals and activities shall be completed by 8 pm.
The schedule may be extended till 10 p.m for Lairoi (last day of the religious festival).
Maniton further said that UKAL is open to suggestions from the public regarding the guidelines.
