Imphal, June 01 2022:
The blessing ceremony of Asengba Yum', an all-woman play to be produced by Alternate Theatre Group was held at the residence of writer of the play, T Roji at Brahmapur Nahabam Leikai here on Wednesday.
The ceremony was attended by Indian Red Cross Society, Imphal East chairman and cultural activist Narendra Ningombam as chief guest and Nat Sankritan artiste G Tombi Sharma as president, while Khengjonglang director Dr S Thaninleima, journalist Sonia So-rensangbam and Langthabal Kunja Junior High School headmistress Kshetrimayum Babylina were present as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Narendra Ningomba urged all to abandon the idea of earning money by organising plays.
He said that acting is like praying to the gods and the place/arena where the actors perform is like a temple.
An insincere and egoistic heart will lay waste to the sacredness of the temple and as such, artistes should have love and passion for his/her craft and their country.
He continued that artistes portray the true nature of society and thus, they have the responsibility of identifying the issues and providing solutions in a subjective manner.
Actors should maintain their characters as it is similar to reading a voluminous book.
There is no probability of artistes going astray in this case, he maintained and then lauded the initiatives being taken up with regard to all women Shumang Leela.
In their brief speeches, the other presidium members observed that all-woman Shumang Leelas (plays) are gradually gaining popularity.
While stating that there is need for women directors to come forward with feminist based plots, they pointed out that plays with good scripts would be able to attract more audience .
