Imphal, May 27 2021:
Amidst the increasing rate of infection and fatality cases in the state, there is a growing fear that the Community Home Isolation Centres (CHICs) set up in different parts of Kakching district for housing Covid-19 positive patients with no facilities for home isolation might abet transmission of the infectious disease.
Making the family members to bring in food for the patients staying in CHICs has added more burden to the Covid-19 affected families.
During the first wave of the pandemic, such inconveniences were not felt by the people as government, locally elected councillors and CSOs extended all possible help in this regard.
However, during the more virulent Covid second wave, family members of Covid patients are made to bring in foods for the patients, that too without wearing any PPE.
Moreover, this arrangement has caused tremendous trouble to families of daily wage earners and when the entire family tested positive for Covid-19.People have drawn the attention of the government and the local MLA to look into the matter.
Patients in CHICs are also facing lots of problems during night when power supply ceases and absence of generator in these centres.
On the other hand, piling up of waste materials and food discard/used by Covid patients in CHICs is also posing bigger threat of fanning spread of the contagion with many suggesting that the government lay out a proper guideline for disposal of waste used by Covid patients.
Covid patients staying in CHICs have sought attention of the government and demanded to solve the problems faced by them without further delay.
