Imphal, September 26 2023:
Recalling how Meira Paibi Lups, CSOs, MLAs and general public raised their voices against the naked parading of two Kuki women, Thangmeiband MLA Kh Joykisan has asked the 10 Kuki MLAs, CSOs who went to UN and public leaders to express their views on the murder of the two students.
The MLA was attending a memorial service in honour of the two students organised by Thangmeiband Kendra Development Organisation (TKDO) near Khoyathong Andolan Keithel, where floral tributes were paid to the photos of the two students.
Speaking on the occasion, the MLA recalled how Meetei CSOs, public and Meira Paibi Lups as well as MLAs including himself condemned the nude parade of two Kuki women.
He also said that the incident might have happened out of an impulsive reaction against the report of raping Meetei women in Churachandpur district on the day of outbreak of the present conflict.
On the other hand, the death of two Meetei students is cold blooded murder.
Despite such inhumane act, the Kuki MLAs, CSOs, women's organisations and public are remaining silent.
"Where have all the religious Kukis gone? Where have their humanity gone?" he asked.
If they are true to their humanism as they claim, they will definitely bring out the murderers, he said.
Informing that CM Biren conveyed Amit Shah's instruction for stem action against the perpetrators during a meeting with the CM on Monday, the MLA said that legislators of the state might take a strong stand if the situation persists.
The government should show its power and arrest the perpetrators, he added.
