'International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking' observed all over the State

International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is observed every year on June 26 with an aim to spread awareness about the global drug problem and eliminate drug misuse.
Supported each year by individuals, communities, and various organizations, 'International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking' is observed all over the State to raise awareness of the major problem that illicit drugs represent to society.
IMPHAL
International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed at Tungi Yumbi De-Addiction and Rehabilitation Centre, Moidangpok Maning Leikai in Imphal West district by BRIGHTS today.
Speaking on the occasion, BRIGHTS co-convenor, Th Pradip stated that a survey report conducted by National Drug Dependence Treatment Centre (NDDTC) and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (ARMS), called 'Magnitude of Substance Use in India, 2019', revealed that a considerable number of people use psycho-active substances in Manipur.
Imphal East District Police along with 6th IRB and volunteers of YADA also celebrated 'International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking' at Palace Gate.
Similarly, in observance of 'International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking', an awareness rally was organised at Nongada and Napet Palli by Lamlai PS .
KAKCHING
Kha-Manipur Yoga and Nature Cure Association, Kakching also observed 'International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking' at Healing Point (IRCA) and Phidam (IRCA) under the theme "Yoga for Health" today.
The programme was attended by Additional SP Kakching, A Romendro Singh and Dr M Rajkumar, Chief functionary KMYNCA.
Later, A Romendro under the supervision of Kakching SP, Victoria Yengkhom also provided face masks, sanitizers and a monetary aid of Rs 2000.Likewise, in observance of 'International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking', Kakching Khunnai Chaokhat Hanba Lup (KKCL), All Kakching Students' Union (AKSU), Nahasinggi Khongthang and JNGVO Kakching jointly organised a cleanliness drive at Kakching today.
It was participated by D Gangmei, DC Kakching and P Sanahal Devi, ex-councillor Ward no 4 along with other staff and volunteers.
KANGPOKPI
Kangpokpi District Police also observed 'International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking' under the theme "Share Facts on Drugs, Save Lives" at SP/ Kpi Conference Hall.
Kangpokpi SP, Karthik Malladi, IPS and senior officers of the district police spoke on the occasion and sensitised the gathering.
It was followed by a rally along the highway in Kangpokpi town holding banners and generating awareness on the ill effects of drugs.
The rally was led by SP Kangpokpi and participated by the district police and representatives of CSOs.
It started from Kpi DHQ and ended at T Twinom Junction near Kpi PS Gate.
SENAPATI
Under the aegis of Manipur Legal Services Authority, the District Legal Services Authority, Senapati in association with Shanti Ghar, Treatment cum Rehabilitation Centre, Mayangkhang, Kangpokpi district observed 'International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking' through video conferencing today.
During the programme, Miranda Yendrembam, Licensed Clinical Psychologist Share & Care, Imphal stressed on the topic 'Impact of COVID-19 on mental health and substance use'.
It was participated by Samom Ibjen, Chairman DLSA Senapati; A Tarunkumari Devi, Secretary DLSA Senapati; S Marysena, Retainer lawyer, Front Office; Panel lawyers, PLVs of DLSA Senapati and inmates of Shanti Ghar, Treatment cum Rehabilitation Centre, Mayangkhang.
TENGNOUPAL
Moreh Youth Club (MYC) in collaboration with NEEDS and North East Dialogue Forum also observed 'International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking' under the theme "Share Facts on Drugs, Save Life" at the Conference Hall of Hill Tribal Council (HTC) Moreh.
An awareness bike rally was also flagged off by Jangmang Haokip, president HTC Moreh.
Later, a seminar on the menace of drugs was also held at HTC conference Hall.
Damgam Khaling, senior Coordinator NEEDS; Michael Thomas, Chairperson of CWC Tengnoupal District and David J Vaiphei, general secretary KSO Moreh Block attended the seminar as resource persons.
It was also participated by locals from HTC Units 1-12, executives of KWU & HR, MPF, HTC, Adulam Rehabilitation Centre and Asha Bhawan.
THOUBAL
Thoubal District Police under the supervision of Jogeshchandra Haobijam, IPS, SP Thoubal also celebrated 'International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking' by organising an awareness rally with the assistance of local clubs and Meira Paibis at Nongpok Sekmai, Lilong, Khongjom Samaram, Heirok and various other places of the district.
