Imphal, February 26 2023:
Chief Minister N Biren said on Saturday that the government has sent a proposal to the Centre for a Rs 93 crore project to set up fire stations in hill and rural areas for timely response in fire incidents.
He gave the information in response to a question raised by Congress MLA K Ranjit about measures for swift response to fire incidents in Saturday's session of the ongoing state assembly.
The MLA brought up the question in a policy cut motion during the discussion on demand for grants of fire service.
In response, the CM said that incidents of forest fires in hill areas are increasing.
Fire service has small vehicles which can enter narrow roads and there are measures to use CO2 foam in areas where water source is not available.
The government had procured nine fire tenders equipped with new tech foam and CO2 cases, 15 portable fire pumps and others.
The project proposal sent to the Centre is for setting up one fire station in each assembly constituency.
Regarding a question on MPTC Pangei, the CM said that guest faculties for different subject matters are engaged and the process for upgrading it into a college will take some time.
