State native raises funds for IDPs

Imphal, August 25 2024:
Okram Bishwajit Singh, a chartered accountant originally from Thoubal and now residing in London, participated in the 'Saucony 10K Run' on July 14, to raise funds for people affected by the ongoing conflict between Kukis and Meeteis in the state.
The conflict, which began on May 3, 2023, has resulted in over 221 deaths, thousands of injuries, and displacement of nearly 60,000.Bishwajit named his participation "Charity Run for Manipur" and approached friends and family for sponsorships.
Through his efforts, he raised over Rs 2 lakh, which were distributed to 33 widows and their families, each receiving Rs 6,000.Bishwajit thanked his parents, Okram Jamuna and Premchand, and members of the World Meitei Council for personally visiting relief camps to distribute the funds on August 18, The recipients expressed their gratitude for the financial support, which they said would help them rebuild their lives after losing almost everything in the conflict.
Bishwajit expressed appreciation for all the support he received from people in Europe, America, and India for his charity run.
He hopes the funds will provide some relief to those most affected by the crisis in Manipur.
