Pukhrambam Kajao remembered

The 130th death anniversary of Pukhrambam Kajao, who was hanged till death by the British on May 25, 1891, was observed by Pukhrambam Kajao Memorial Trust, Kangmong head office at the memorial site of the martyr located at Kangmong Maisnam Leikai on Tuesday.
Trust president Lairenjam Pishak and general secretary Maisnam Joykumar led the participants in offering floral tributes to the portrait of the martyr while observing Covid relevant SOPs.
Siren was sounded as a mark of honour to the late martyr.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines, Joykumar informed that the observance was held in a modest manner as one person had died and there are over 20 active cases of Covid-19 in the locality.
Noting that installation of a statue has helped in making the public aware about the sacrifices made by Pukhrambam Kajao, he also conveyed the trust's gratitude to the government for naming a road after the martyr.
Joykumar also urged government to set up a museum at Kangmong to showcase the contributions made by Pukhrambam Kajao in the Anglo-Manipuri War and suggested that the government take up initiatives for keeping photos and documents related with Pukhrambam Kajao in museums at Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru.
