Imphal, July 23 2024:
Chief Minister N Biren has appealed to residents along the Imphal-Yairipok road to withdraw their protest while stating that work order for the road renovation project is under process.
Responding to queries from media persons during a mass tree plantation programme on Tuesday, CM Biren said that funds for renovating the Imphal-Yairipok road has already been sanctioned and process underway to issue work order.
Mention may be made here that All Kongba Road United Clubs' Organisation (AKRUCO), an apex body of different clubs in Kongba Thongkhong, Irilbung and Keirao areas along Imphal-Yairipok Road, has been blocking the road since July 20 demanding early repairing of the deplorable road.
Contrary to the CM's appeal, AKRUCO announced to intensify its agitation including shutting down the power line from Kongba sub-station and water connectivity from Iril Water Supply to denounce lack of positive response by the government authority and the contractor concerned on the issue.
Addressing the media at Kongba Keithel on Wednesday, AKRUCO co-convener Seram Surjit stated that they launched the agitation on July 19 over the dilapidated condition of the road stretch from Kongba bridge to Keirao Salam, and decided to intensify the same as there has been no response from authorities concerned even after four days.
To denounce government apathy, all schools, colleges and essential services will be shut down/prohibited, except for medical emergency and media, he informed.
Surjit cautioned that in case the department and contractor concerned continue to remain adamant then a meeting of 26 clubs, 45 meira paibi units and public of the area would be held on Thursday at 11 am with representation from department concerned and the contractor to clarify on the matter.
If they fail to attend the meeting then they should be responsible for any action taken by AKRUCO, he declared.
