Local residents block Imphal-Yairipok Road in protest

Imphal, July 20 2024: All Kongba Road United Clubs' Organisation (AKRUCO) on Saturday began its protest against the failure of repairing the deplorable Imphal-Yairipok road by blocking the said road indefinitely.

Supporting the protest, people living along the stretch of the road from Kongba Thongkhong to Keirao Bitra Khunou Salam road came out in droves and blocked the road by piling up woods and burning tyres.

No vehicles were allowed to ply except for essential services and transporters carrying school students.

It may be mentioned here that Imphal-Yairipok road has been in dilapidated condition for long time now, especially along the stretch after Kongba while going towards Yairipok.

People of the area have been frequently protesting demanding repair of the road.

Recently, some repair work was taken up with laying of stones, but it too had been stopped, thus resulted in the said road becoming muddy and unmotorable.

Consequently, AKRUCO had given an ultimatum to authority concerned with deadline for repairing the road by Friday, otherwise they will block the road indefinitely.
