Bomb threat mock exercise conducted at Imphal airport

Imphal, December 19 2024:
In the wake of frequent bomb ' threats and hoax calls received via social media and other sources at Imphal airport, a bomb threat mock exercise (BTME) was conducted at the airport on Thursday.
In a release, Airports Authority of India (AAI) informed that the exercise was aimed at assessing and enhancing efficiency of inter-agency collaboration, security preparedness, and coordination to ensure swift and effective emergency responses.
The scenario involved a simulated bomb threat, with active participation of the AAI, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), airline operators, airport police, medical teams, airport fire services, intelligence bureau, immigration authorities, city police, and other key stakeholders.
The exercise underscored the airport's unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest levels of security and operational readiness, it added.
The release further cautioned that under the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against the Safety of Civil Aviation Act (SUAASCA), 1982, any act that threatens airport safety or disrupts airport operations, including hoax calls, is punishable by life imprisonment.
