Imphal, December 19 2021:
Despite having involved in Indian politics as a state for over five decades, Manipur is still lagging behind in every sphere, and so the state needs sincere and committed politicians to get out from his abysmal misery and repressive existence, said Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee secretary and intending candidate in Naoriya Pakhanglakpa assembly constituency Dr Soraisam Manaoton.
While flagging off a mass political rally organised by Naoriya Block Congress Committee from Mekola Keithel on Sunday which was participated by large number of supporters, Dr Manaoton said that people have tried and tested the former elected representatives of the state, under whom the constituency has failed to attain development.
It is time to elect new faces, who are capable, sincere and committedto bring development in true sense of the term, in the constituency, he maintained.
Regarding the problem of drug menace being experienced in the state, Manaoton said that just raising slogans against drugs cannot win the war against drugs.
It needs sincerity and commitment.
Contrary to the government's slogan 'war on drugs', the number of people involved in illegal drug trades is increasing and it is a known fact that many of them have active political backgrounds.
Instead of saving the youth from the drug menace, these politicians are damaging the future of the youth in the race of amassing wealth.
As a result, the state is still lagging behind in every sector when the rest of the world is the space race, he said.
The candidate aspirant also called the present electoral system as a flawed one where the minority runs the government.
The whole state is getting the benefits of having an international airport and government oil depot but people of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa assembly constituency are still living life abysmally.
The government has failed to translate the assurances given while signing the No Objection Certificate at the time of airport expansion and setting up of oil depot.
On the other hand, the state needs an agricultural policy to support farmers, improve farming sector and bring socio-economic development for farmers, he added.
